Recap
Waterfall Cup 1st Round: Home fixture
The Eagles started well, Oscar deservedly scoring the first try after applying a lot of pressure in the opening 10 minutes. We thought we scored a second but it was knocked on during placement over the try line.
Old Ruts came back at the eagles, scoring an excellent end to end break away try. They also succeeded with the convertion. They added to their points with a 2nd try, to take a 5-12 half time lead.
At the beginning of the second half Old Ruts scored first to take a 5-17 lead. The Eagles fought back with everthing they had. A number of disallowed tries got them really pumped up.
2 excellent team tries by the Eagles, finished off by winger Max Baker got the scoreline back to 15-17. A number of knock-ons followed, by both teams, as the pressure built. This only added to the excitement and frustration in the closing minutes as the Eagles battled to get into Old Ruts territory.
Eagles desire to win finally paid off, with a match winning try by Hugo Hinchliffe in the last play of the game. A well fought win by a team that never gives up.
“An epic game – credit to your players and the coaches for the style, effort and way it was played.
And send thanks to the ref – he was excellent throughout.
Rod, Old Ruts & Kings Head Coach”
