KEITH HOWIESON – 1953 – 2023

A STALWART OF THE CLUB.

Sadly, Keith unexpectedly passed away on Thursday 22nd December 2023. A great shock to us all as he had been with us all during the weekend before his demise.

Keith was a long term member of the club going way back to his initial playing days in the 70’s with gaps when he went to work in Hong Kong and Dubai where he also played. He was first team captain in 1978-1979 and was proud to be able to point his name out, on The Club Honours Board.

In subsequent years he became a stalwart behind the bar and was last seen at The Club, in this role, on the Friday before he passed away. Always available and happy to help he would often be involved in serving at pre-match luncheons and saw virtually every Seniors home game and many away games. Often teaming up with his friend Alan Witherspoon.

Keith would also be there on Sunday mornings for Minis and Juniors and it will be very strange not to see him there on a sporting weekend. He was also a keen Chelsea supporter, and you would often find the screens on our TV’s, magically changing to football if he could get hold of the remote control.

The photo below was taken on 21st October 2023 and shows him in a pose he would have liked. A view of the pitches, and taken during The Past Players Lunch, where Keith knew virtually every person and was a highlight of the season for him.

Another passion was trips abroad to watch rugby, with excursions for several years, to watch Toulon RFC over a long rugby weekend, and to Bordeaux in 2023 to watch matches in the Rugby World Cup.

A little known fact about Keith was his passion for Pastis. No doubt developed on his trips to France.

He will be sadly missed.
