A difficult week leading up to 20th December. Initially we thought that the Old Glynonians would be unable to raise a team. The Christmas lunch was cancelled, a number of members signed up for the Harlequins match. Old Glynonians then decided to honour the fixture (good for them) and the lunch was back on (but too late for the Quins gang). And then on Thursday it rained and rained and rained. Would our pitch be able to cope? Yes it was. Friday was fine and Saturday was cold but dry so all systems go.
How does one start a math report for a score of 74 points? I think one way would be to refer back one week to the scores in our league:
The Lancers 71
Thamesians 72
Old Georgians 73
So The Eagles 74
The English cricket team would do well if they could reproduce form like this. As I write this I have a wry smile on my face as the Quins are getting hammered by Bristol (0-26 at half time) – London Scots don’t like the Quins!
Let me refer to my little red book –
2.00 Kick off. 2.02 1st try under the posts. Kick through try out wide well converted 2.05. 2.09 try by forwards … hopeless. Here are the pertinent facts – half time 50-0. Second half – first 25 minutes 24 more points. Last 15 minutes OG in and around our 22 – full credit to them.
In total we score 12 tries – Bridge 5, Sam Mannin 2, Durbridge 2, Richard Smith 2, Nickson 1. 7 tries were converted – 6 by Sam Manning and one for Nickson.
Having reached halfway in the league it is appropriate to congratulate the Senior section of the rugby club from the Director of Rugby, the coaches and the playing squad. For the record this is the best the Club has achieved for some 25 years (i.e. the 1999-2000 season).
