At 11:10am on Sunday 31st March 2024 Billy the Brave finally found his peace. He should never have had to fight this battle, but fight he did, and so valiantly right up until his very last breath.
This is how we will remember him, and now he has gained his superhero wings for real. Fly high, Billy the Brave, our Billy, William Freddie Thomas Thompson. We will hold you close with every single heart beat, within every single minute and every single moment of the rest of our lives until we meet again.
I will leave you with a typical Billy question, one he asked me before Christmas. “What about if you do a poo up there in heaven and it falls down to earth. Will my bum be up there?”
I guess now, my darling, you will find out. And if it’s so, keep giggling, keep laughing, keep cheekily charming the pants off everybody you meet, and if you do poop, watch out for us down here.
We couldn’t be more proud of you; you were always too precious for this world.
Day 141. And then all of a sudden, way too soon, you were gone. And I don’t know how on earth we live without you. My heart is still beating and I’m not quite sure why as it has just been shattered into a million pieces.
Go bravely, Billy, as you always do.
