An Effingham side reeling from a slew of injuries in the last 2 months put up a creditable fight against their south London counterparts, but ultimately Whitgiftians had too much skill to be troubled by their more lowly opponents.

The Effingham Eagles started brightly from the kick off which they re-gathered and scrum half Greg Edwards put in a lovely grubber kick which was re-gathered and then offside in the backs saw Tom Durbridge slot the penalty. Whitgiftians hit back and their pressure and power paid off with 2 quick tries and a penalty to take the half time lead to 15- 3.

Further driving maul tries after the break saw the home side extend their lead before Effingham scored their well worked try when the ball was carried forward by centre Rory Kasapian. With the ball recycled the play was moved to wingman James Rennison who showed great pace to step past his opponent and score in the corner.

Whitgiftians scored a further 2 tries to take the final score to 34 – 8.
