Recap
A glorious autumnal day for rugby saw the visitors dominate an understrength Effingham side and thoroughly deserve their bonus point victory. A solitary Whits penalty was the only score of the first half where Effingham clung on valiantly to keep the visitors at bay.
The rugby came to life in the second period when the Whits forwards started to get on top especially their ball handling front five who held the upper hand in the tight and were effective in the loose. Holes were punched around the fringes and the Whits fly half who was effective all game put the center in for the opening score which the fly half converted. To their credit Effingham hit back when a scintiltaing break from second row James Rennison saw him race up field 50 yards and great recycling by the forward eventually saw veteran prop Sam Maycock plunge over for the score to make the score 12– 5 to Whits.
Effingham couldn’t sustain this try and the big Whits forwards kept on coming but Effingham defence was exceptional with Mikey Crowhurst and Joe Curtis chopping them down time and again. But as the defence tired the holes appeared which were ruthlessly exploited by the fly half and his mates. They scored 3 unanswered scores and went out to a 29 points to 5 lead. But Effingham had the final say when they managed a late foray into Whits twenty two and after a quick tapped penalty young prop Scott Wilson scored an amazing solo try when he bounced off 3 players, handed off a fourth and made the try line for his debut Eagles try which was converted by skipper Matt Manning. This try made it Effingham 12 : 29 Old Whits
