An entertaining game played out at Browns Lane saw both sides throw the ball around from start to finish with Amplefordians having a more clinical edge when they reached the red zone. Mistakes from the kick off saw Effingham concede numerous early penalites and inevitably Amplefordians took advantage to score when their scrum half darted down the blind side to put the winger in for the score.

Effingham hit back with 2 Sam Manning penalties but the away side kept their noses in front with a further 2 scores. Effingham rallied and heavy pressure saw wingman James Bridge score the first of his 3 tries when the ball was fired out from Charlie Blunt and Bridge beat his opposite man to score. This made the half time score 11 – 24 to the Amplefordians.

The second half kicked off with Effingham dominating possession and a kick through by scrum half Joe Blunt was gathered by the full back and under heavy pressure he threw a speculative pass out under his posts and that man Bridge snaffled the ball to dot down under the sticks. This brought the score to 18 – 24 but Amplefordians rallied and their heavier forwards rumbled inside the 22 and manged to crawl over the line for a try which stretched the legalities of the law book. The conversion was missed and Effingham again got into their stride with their best move of the match. Quick ruck ball enabled fly half Manning to get his back line moving creating space out wide and when the overlap was generated that man Bridge used his speed and footwork to sprint in from 30 metres.

The away side manged to get the final score to leave the result at 25 – 36 in what was a thoroughly entertaining match with young Bridge the star of the show.
