Recap

1st Round tie in Waterfall Cup

Effingham started the match with a quick try, Henrique breaking through the back line, linking up well for the first try. Unfortunately this gave us the impression that we could simply cruise and nobody maintained the intensity we look for.
Esher responded with a few phases that was met by an overconfident and weak Effingham defence. There was no effort at the breakdown and from a penalty we allowed one of their larger kids to go over virtually unchallenged.

After one of the more intense chats Doc has given, the boys finally woke up and started playing as a team. A flurry of tries followed in the first and second halves with forwards and backs linking up well; the ‘slip stream’ coming into effect.

A frustrated Esher side lost their cool at times and a tackle to Ben off his feet saw their flanker receive a fair yellow card. We maintained our focus and did not engage – well done boys. Well done to Harry Campbell who covered scrum half well and was denied the space to run that he would normally have thrived in. Alastair enjoyed the opportunity to open up and linked up well with the wingers. Lots of selfless play and good to see Luke, Sam and Joe back in the side.

Good result in a shortened game. Let that send a clear signal to those who doubt us.
