The Eagles had a very close fought match v Farnham B at Stoke Park which we lost. 24 – 5 to Farnham.
Farnham won the toss and elected to play downhill and downwind . A wise decision.
Guilfordian Eagles, through some excellent defensive work at the breakdown, managed to prevent Farnham from scoring for the first 20 mins but having to defend up the hill, as well as the number of tackles they were having to make, finally took its toll and Farnham eventually worked the ball out wide Eagles were stretched and thet managed to score in the corner. They then scored again shortly afterwards on the other wing.
Eventually Eagles got some momentum and got up the hill and into the Farnham 22 and were very unfortunate to have a try disallowed for a double movements on the stroke of half time.
The second half was a different story with Eagles having the majority of the possession but unfortunately couldn’t quite finish off with a try as the efforts from the first half were beginning to tell and there were some costly handling errors when the try line was begging. Farnham had very little of the ball in the second half but on one occasion when they did have some possesion they again showed some slick passing to move the ball wide into some space and scored a well worked try with their winger running round to score under the posts
Eventually the pressure told and Eagles managed to score through Bryn from a well set up maul and drive.
Notable mentions to Brandon who made some oustanding tackles as well as his pinpoint accuracy when kicking from hand. He missed the very tricky conversion only by a matter of inches on the left hand upright.
Man of the match was James F for his all round efforts all rpund the park and for a momumetal effort in making a try saving tackle on the Farnham player who had intercepted a pass.
